Samantha Mitchell
Samantha graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance in 2007 gaining a Diploma in Dance Performance. Highlights during her studies included attending the Cultural Traditions Programme at Jacobs Pillow in Massachusetts (USA) working with Neil Irimea, and performing Stitchbirds at the 2007 Body Festival in Christchurch, under choreographer Daniel Belton. She was later invited back to New Zealand to work on a research project with Belton to develop Stitchbirds 2nd Movement.
Samantha joined Expressions Dance Company (EDC) in 2008 as a resident dancer under the direction of Maggi Sietsma. In her first year, she performed in Sietsma’s world premier of On Thin Ice in Brisbane, then in China and also performed with the company in New York.
After Natalie Weir’s appointment as Artistic Director in 2009, Samantha has performed in all EDC’s works including award winning where the heart is and critically acclaimed R&J. Samantha also performed First Ritual in Beijing, China, a collaboration with Beijing’s LDTX and Scripsi Scriptum in Basel, Switzerland, a collaboration with the Cathy Sharp Dance Ensemble
