Daryl Brandwood
Daryl was born in Perth, Australia and began his ballet training at West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAPPA). He joined West Australian Ballet in 1990 and was a member of the Company intermittently until 2012.
He has also worked with The Australian Ballet, BalletMet in the USA (performing with them at the Joyce Theatre in New York), and Australian Dance Theatre. Daryl’s career highlights include performing the principal couple in George Balanchine’s Diamonds from Jewels, the role of Puck in Barry Moreland’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and feature roles in Natalie Weir’s The Collector and Lacrimosa.
Daryl has received several awards including Helsinki International Ballet Competition, the Green Room Award for Best Emerging Male Artist and a Helpmann Award for Best Male Dancer in a Ballet or Dance Work. Most recently Daryl was award the 2012 Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer for his independent piece HELIX, created with Barry Moreland. Daryl joined EDC in July 2012, performing the role of The Father in where the heart is.
