Towards the Flame

Presented by Queensland Symphony Orchestra

17 November 2012, QPAC Concert Hall

Natalie Weir has been invited to create a new contemporary dance piece for the EDC dancers to be presented in Towards The Flame by Queensland Symphony Orchestra. EDC’s contribution to the evening will be a smouldering piece to Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite. The evening also includes Beethoven’s Prometheus: Overture, Stravinsky’s Fireworksand dancers from Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts (ACPA) performing to Stravinsky’s Firebird SuiteTowards The Flame will be a moving and dramatic evening of classical music and contemporary dance.

Let’s Dance
Presented by Australian Ballet

7 – 16 June, State Theatre Melbourne

In June, EDC travels to Melbourne at the invitation of David McAllister and joins with leading dancers and companies from around Australia to perform in the Australian Ballet’s Let’s Dance. This inaugural event features world premieres and key classics from The Australian Ballet and guest companies including West Australian Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, Queensland Ballet, Australian Dance Theatre, Dancenorth and EDC. Together, they will create a vivid picture of the strength and diversity of our nation’s dance culture.

Gala Dance Performance

Presented by the Noosa Longweekend Festival

7.30pm, 22 June, The J Theatre, Noosa Heads

Award-winning Expressions Dance Company will present an exclusive program of their most celebrated solos, duets and ensemble works. This specially devised festival program will also feature performances by guest artists including Daryl Brandwood direct from West Australian Ballet.

An absolute highlight will be the Queensland Premiere of EDC’s brand new ensemble work, created by Artistic Director Natalie Weir especially for the Australian Ballet’s 50th Anniversary, Let’s Dance.
